AAWORD’s Strategic Choice for 2008-2012

Informed by a right based approach, AAWORD interventions will be guided  by following the vision, mission, values, a strategic goal/objectives, including strategies and approaches.

Guided by human rights approach, while continuing to focus on marginalized women in Africa as our primary target group, in the next five years a major and special thrust will be exerted on the need to bring meaningful, concrete and tangible transformation of women’s lives and livelihoods at grassroots level. This is because these women have continued to be excluded from both mainstream development processes and from enjoying benefits accrued from same.

Key program areas, Strategic Objectives and Indicators

In contributing to the realization of gender equality for the forthcoming five years, AAWORD will focus on Economic Justice and Democratic Governance and synergistic effects from their inter linkages with gender lens. AAWORD will take a technical leadership in tackling the root causes of gender inequalities perpetuating poverty, while advocating for policy and social change that will help transform lives and livelihoods of women across all ages and localities to better their destiny. AAWORD will not only raise awareness on development issues with gender lens, but also work to transform cycles of inequality and poverty and thus bring about social transformation.
In demonstrating its bold decision to focus on rural communities, by building on its three decades successes, AAWORD national chapters will be responsible for stimulating a prompt vibrant, sustainable self-help indigenous structures and processes, while gradually leveraging their status to fully autonomous bodies. AAWORD will employ implementation strategies that enhance sustainability and ownership. In enhancing a world, where women can reach their fullest potential through active participation in the development of their communities, AAWORD will invest in building the skills, experience and confidence of women across all ages, to effect positive changes in their communities. Capacity building will be an overarching strategy of all its interventions. As such, women structures in form of think tanks will serve as a resource pool in realizing its aims.

While feminist research and advocacy will be mainstreamed in all two strategic goals, the following snapshot portrays AAWORDs new strategic choice
